In Loving Memory of David Scott Thayer 

David Thayer, 55, of Merriam, Kansas passed away September 8, 2023, at the University of Kansas Medical Center. He was born March 5, 1968, in Kansas City, Kansas, the son of Victor Thayer and Sharon Thomas. On September 18, 2004, he married the love of his life, Tracy.

He had a deep passion for classic cars, relishing the thrill of working on, building, and driving them (except on gravel roads) along with attending many car shows. He enjoyed watching NASCAR races and the Kansas City Chiefs as well as spending as much time as he could at his lake home in the Lake of the Ozarks. David was a proud owner of a limousine transportation service, demonstrating his love for all things that moved on wheels. He was an avid music lover (especially Elvis music) and would often be seen driving around, visiting lake neighbors while blaring his favorite playlists. Most importantly, he loved spending time with his family and friends.

David knew no strangers and always put the needs of others before his own. To say he was always the life of the party would be an understatement. Anyone that had the privilege of knowing him will always be able to smile when they hear the song “Tighten Up” or while sipping on the perfect smoked Old Fashion.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Victor and Sharon, his brother-in-law, Mark Nidiffer and the best dog in the world, Otis. He is survived by his wife, Tracy; son, Kole Dempsey-Thayer; siblings, Cheryl Nidiffer, Dennis Thayer, Michael Thayer, Eddie Thayer, Kelley Gardner (Eddie), Cody Burkit (Sandra), Aimee Stocksen, Jessica Beeler (Bill) and Brian McAvinew; father-in-law, Mike McAvinew; mother-in-law, Carol McAvinew; cats, Charlie, Lucy and Missy; and so many nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles and special friends. We will all miss him dearly.

The family will hold a celebration of life on Wednesday, September 20th, 2023, from 6:00-9:00 p.m. at the Venue at Willow Creek, 3150 N 91st Street in Kansas City, Kansas. The family would like to reserve 5:00-6:00 p.m. for family only. Food and an open bar will be provided. The event is going to be very casual as David would want it to be, so all you need to bring is your favorite ride and any stories you want to share. Let’s celebrate him the way he deserves to be remembered.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his honor to the Ocular Melanoma Foundation
